DEEP RESEARCH FUND – CARBON FOOTPRINT
Our carbon footprint and what we have to say about it
Climate change is a unique challenge for us humans to understand because it manifests slowly over a long time. It is, and will remain, one of the key drivers of long-term risk and return.
As we hold our portfolio companies for six years on average, it is essential that we approach climate risk and opportunity responsibly: Our portfolio is likely to feel their effect. But our climate commitment goes beyond that. We don’t want to profit from the destruction of the environment and we are keen to make sure we can enjoy this world for many generations. Calculating the carbon footprint of our portfolio helps indicate if we are on the right track.
We conduct our carbon analysis from the bottom up, meaning that we seek to understand the carbon footprint of each of our companies and aggregate them at the portfolio level. We avoid investing in companies active in carbon-intensive industries and we raise the topic of managing greenhouse gas emissions with all our portfolio companies. This helps us stay below the carbon levels of benchmarks, which can only capture the world as it currently is.
